What does the "Blue Bucket" have to do with Smiles For Fresno? Well....what it really has to do with is the capability of the human body to adapt to our world. For instance, when I was in Dental School, for two years I lived on a busy street and there was a fire station 2 doors away. For the first two weeks there I could not sleep...it was just too noisy!! After awhile though, the noise didn't bother me and I slept so well that one night there was a multi-alarm fire right across the street and I didn't hear a thing! I was able to adapt! Ok then, what does that have to do with a "Blue Bucket"???
The "Blue Bucket" is what allows us to adapt..it gets filled up a little if you have a new crown placed that causes your bite to be off a bit for a day or so...it might get filled up a bit more if you were in braces as a kid and had some bicuspids extracted to provide space....then again it may get filled up a bit more if you were rear ended at a stop sign, but "felt fine". The size of the Blue Bucket is not the same for all people...and it is difficult to say how close your bucket is to over flowing. When it overflows, there are other things that show up...seemingly unexplained pains, illnesses, dizziness, tingling in the fingertips, headaches that won't go away. For some people, the bucket is the size of a thimble! For others, it is huge and they can go through life and not notice a thing!

2009 Greetings!
I finally decided to take the plunge and get committed to a Blog for the New Year! My plans are to posts items of interest at least once a week, possibly more. It will obviously be related to Dentistry but also other items of interest with regards to overall health.
No New Year's resolutions for me per se, but I would like to step up my physical activity level...since the office is not that far from Woodward Park, walking there certainly has an appeal!
I would love to get back in the shape that I was when I rode my bike around Lake Tahoe for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Why did I ever stop riding after all that pain to get in shape?
Oh well...
Please e-mail if you have specific questions for me to address, I welcome your participation in this endeavor. Best wishes for 2009!
